In this course, key aspects of human language, a rule-governed symbolic system, will be introduced. In the first half of the semester, lectures will be given to present the internal structure of language at different linguistic levels, which includes phonetics, phonology, morphology and syntax. In the second half, related issues such as language learning, language and computers, and the interactions between language use and social or cultural factors will be covered.
